How to move your Weebly domain before 26 December

Title card: how to move your Weebly domain before 26 December
How to move your Weebly domain before 26 December.

If you bought your web address through Weebly and you are in one of the 67 countries where Weebly is shutting down, moving that domain is the most important job on your list. According to Weebly's notice, login access ends on 26 December 2026. Your domain is your web address and often your email address too, so move it well before then.

The steps below come from Weebly's notice, Upcoming Changes to Weebly's Global Operations. Screens can change, so if something looks different, check in your Weebly or Square account or ask Weebly support.

Lotus & Tulip is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Weebly, Square or Block, Inc. Weebly is a trademark of its owner and is named here only to describe the service.

First, check whether you need to do this

Sign in and go to Websites, Domains. If your domain appears there as one you bought or registered through Weebly, read on. If you bought it elsewhere and only connected it to Weebly, it is already at another company: sign in there instead, and point it at your new website when that is ready.

Four rules to know before you start

Step by step

  1. Choose your new registrar and open an account. This company will handle your domain and renewals from now on. Check its transfer price first.
  2. Write down your current settings. Before you change anything, take screenshots of every domain setting you can see in Weebly, especially anything to do with email. If your email runs on this domain, you will need these settings at the new registrar.
  3. Open the domain in Weebly. From your Weebly Dashboard, go to Websites, Domains, then click Manage, Manage Domain on the domain you want to move.
  4. Turn off the registrar lock and copy the code. Switch off the Registrar Lock toggle. Weebly then shows the EPP authorization code. Copy the full code and keep it private.
  5. Start the transfer at the new registrar. Enter your domain name and the EPP code there, and follow their instructions. The rest of the process happens with them, not with Weebly.
  6. Watch your inbox. Registrars usually email you to approve a transfer. Reply promptly.
  7. Check that everything works. When the transfer is complete, compare the settings with your screenshots, send yourself a test email, and turn privacy protection back on.

Transfers are not instant, and a missed email can add days, so start now rather than in December.

Other options

Weebly's notice also mentions keeping your domain with Weebly and setting it up to work with another host. In the affected countries, account access ends on 26 December 2026, so before you rely on that option, ask Weebly support what happens to the domain after that date and get the answer in writing.

If you have a Google Workspace account through Weebly, the notice says to contact Weebly support to transfer it directly to Google.

For everything else to save before the deadline, see Weebly site unpublished or offline: what to do now.

Domain moved, site still offline? We can rebuild your old Weebly site as a one-page site from your own content and help you point your domain at it, with a free preview first. See how the rebuild works.

FAQ

Where do I find my EPP code in Weebly?

In Websites, Domains, choose Manage, Manage Domain, then switch off the Registrar Lock toggle. Weebly's notice says the authorization code appears once the lock is off.

Why can't I transfer my domain?

The two common reasons in Weebly's notice are a domain registered less than 60 days ago, and a 60-day lock after a change to the registrant's contact details. For country-code domains, contact Weebly support.
